Once a year I get to be Featured Artist at Skylark Galleries. It was my turn in December this year. The top piece is called “Golden Light” and I’m very pleased with it as it’s a bit different from my other work, it’s a free form unique embossing with 24 carat gold leaf on hand-made cotton paper from France. The blue one beneath it is “Silver Thread”, which can be a river, a path a journey, or whatever it is for you.
Inside I displayed a group of “long thin” vertical pieces which were inspired by the waterfalls in the Hokusai exhibition at the British Museum this year. From left to right they are; the green one “Gold Seam”, the purple one “Dance of Life”, the pink one “Celebration” (technically a horizontal piece, but I chose to hang in vertically for this show), and finally the lilac one “Falling Water”.
I loved being Featured Artist in December as my use of gold and silver seemed to fit with the sparkly mood of the winter season. In fact “Celebration” is inspired by the annual New Year’s Firework display which lights up our city.
